My family and I have faced one of the largest challenges life can throw at you in the last 2 years: a close family member having a chronic illness. This family member, my mum, is a massive rock music fan, as am I, so it's perfect to raise money by rocking a mullet 🤘. My hair is over 23 inches long and I will be cutting off a lot of this to also donate my hair to Little Lady Locks. Now that I have finally managed to feel in a position to help not just my family but to also help others, this was the perfect campaign to get involved with. I have teamed up with an incredible hair salon called TMa2 who have known my mum since she was at uni and also know others suffering from chronic illnesses and are willing to spread this news even further. We will be doing the Mullet cut at the end of May!!!
Not only this, but my Grandad has recently been diagnosed with severe Leukemia in the last month. Whilst both have been incredibly difficult to come to terms with and the former even giving me diagnosed PTSD, Anxiety and Depression, one of the most frustrating realisations to me is that there is no cure for this type of Leukemia. We can burn ourself to the bone doing everything we possibly can to help an individual but the sad truth is that Leukemia will bring someone's life to a quicker end. This makes me so angry and upset and I know there is a cure out there somewhere for this type and many other forms of Cancer, where the cure is still unkown, and we need to keep fighting as hard as we can to find it.
From personal experience I understand just how tormenting family illness can be and we need to prevent this as much as we possibly can. It is so unfair that half of all humans will have to go through being taken ill with Cancer, and the other half will know someone that they deeply care about having it. It is almost inescapable. We all know the NHS is currently deeply underfunded so there has never been a more pressing time to do our bit to help fight this horrible illness known as Cancer.
From experience, I also think a lot more should be done to support those living with a chronic or debilitating illness, such as Cancer or the illness my mum has and those that care for them. A lot of people don't realise how heartbreaking it is to see someone you love go through such horrific suffering and there is very little you can do about it.
I really believe that more can also be done to help children in the families of those affected. Not only did I need to care for my ill mother but I needed to take responsibility for my younger brother, making sure he was fed, picked up from school, taken to football etc..
What my mum and grandad have/are going through and what we have been through as a family is sadly not just a rare unfortunate case. This is true for so many other families.
So please help this nation all work together to help research Cancer and other chronic illnesses with little knowledge of cause, cure or treatment and raise money to support those caring for them. Even a small donation goes a very long way. Nobody deserves to go through severe illness and nobody deserves to know someone who does.
Together we can change and improve so many people's lives for the better. Even if just through a small, medium or large donation. Please donate to help us all defeat Cancer :)
Sending love🩷
